I struggled with acne for years even as a vegan and I hope that sharing this personal story with you is exactly what you need these tips will also work for you if you want clearer smoother healthier looking skin caveat I’m not a doctor my skin is not perfect but I have healed and I want to share my experience my story and what worked for me.
I want to start this off by reminding you of something that I wish I knew in the midst of my skin challenges and it’s this no matter how bad you consider your skin how inflamed it is how many comments you’ve gotten about it it is not your identity you are not your acne who you are on the inside your mind your spirit your heart that’s what makes you beautiful because the outside for many
reasons it eventually Fades away but your heart never will and that’s true beauty so growing up I always thought sickness especially my skin issues were my identity I really don’t remember a single day where my skin wasn’t you know burning me itching bumpy or scaly.
Acne isn’t just a sign of poor detoxification it’s a red flag that your gut microbiome is out of balance. That healthy bacteria in your gut, When it’s off, your skin pays the price.
How I Healed My Skin
1. The Juice Cleanse Reset
I started with a fruit and vegetable juice cleanse to flood my body with nutrients while giving my digestive system a break. Juicing cleanses the blood, supports liver function, and helps balance hormones.
2. Going Mostly Raw
Raw foods are packed with live enzymes that improve digestion, detoxify heavy metals, and boost nutrient absorption. My diet became:
- Smoothies, salads, fresh juices
- Minimally cooked meals (steamed veggies, quinoa, lentils)
3. Whole Food Plant-Based Diet
I cut out:
- Refined carbs (white flour, sugar, white rice)
- Processed vegan junk (fake meats, oily snacks)
- Dairy & meat (loaded with hormones)
- Excess soy & gluten (triggered flare-ups)
Instead, I ate:
- Whole grains (oats, quinoa, barley)
- Healthy fats (avocados, nuts, seeds)
- Fiber-rich foods (kept me regular)
4. Exercise & Stress Management
- Movement improved circulation, digestion, and hormone balance.
- Cutting stress (even quitting a high-stress job) was crucial stress worsens acne.
Topical Skin Healing
- Ditched harsh cleansers used black soap and gentle exfoliation with a warm cloth.
- Apple cider vinegar toner (1 tsp + 1 tsp water) antibacterial and exfoliating.
- Essential oils (tea tree, frankincense, lavender) diluted in rosehip or almond oil healed without clogging pores.
- Vitamin E oil faded my scars.
- Clean sheets & pillowcases reduced bacteria transfer.
- Hydration water daily transformed my skin.
